The "Straight to the Point" Pyramid
In my opinion, I agree with the usage of the inverted pyramid. I believe that the most important information should be at the beginning of the article. It shouldn’t drag on and on, it should get straight to the point. I’m not a fan of reading news articles but however, I don’t mind those that have information and all of the questions in a quick short story. Sometimes, it depends on the type of article that I read. Unless it’s straight forward, I don’t want to read it. This is why the inverted pyramid should continue to be used.

Video
The video that I watched online was about the troops from Afghanistan arriving back to Ottawa. The establishing shot in the video was a shot of the troop’s home and the news interviewer. The introduction is a reporter giving information about the troops coming home and how it was an emotional event for their families. Two sources that were used in this video were Col. Roch Lacroix and Major Curtis Smith. Col. Roch Lacroix was asked about the Afghanistan prisoners and Major Curtis Smith was asked if it had any affect on him. Two types of "b-roll" that they could have used was showing pictures of the troops that came to Ottawa while the reporter was and when they were showing the troops and their families as they were leaving. The closing is when the troops and their families are leaving the airport.

Frum vs. Fromme
In the video that we were told to watch in order to complete this assignment, I admire Frum’s style of interviewing. Even when things went bad by not being defense, she always keeps her “cool.” She always concentrated on what she felt mattered and didn’t let Lynette Fromme take control of the situation. If she had of gotten aggressive, she would have looked like the bad guy in the situation and Fromme would have hung up earlier, causing Frum to never know what Fromme was really like.
The most effective question that was asked was “what do you think about what happened Saturday in Sacramento?” Frum may have came across as being ignorant, but she simply just giving Fromme a chance to speak her mind and give her own opinion.
Being in Journalism this year, I would much rather do a written interview because I tend to get mad easily on certain occasions and wouldn’t be able to maintain my cool. It is important that you stay calm or else a lot of things can go down hill.

Journal Entry - Journalism Lies
When watching the news or reading it in the newspaper, I have considered that it may be false information. My reaction to these types of articles is that they are pointless and can get people really worked up and bothered, such as the story “Jimmy’s World.” I was extremely surprised that professional journalists would go to great lengths as to make a story involving an eight year old boy being addicted to heroine.
In response to Jack Shafer saying “most liars make things up for the simple reason that they don’t have the talent or the ability to get the story and other way”, I feel that colleges and universities should be doing a way better job of graduating journalism students. They could do so by researching the story.

Mr. Carter
Blackville Talon
Dear Mr. Carter,
I am writing this letter to tell you what section of the yearbook I would like to work in and why I believe that I should be granted the part.
I believe that I should be given a part as the business manager because I have experience in selling things to the public. I know that I would be an excellent candidate to consider for this position because I am always committed to everything that I do, and I would make sure that the yearbook doesn’t break our budget.
I have very good organizational skills and would be able to continue working on the yearbook next semester. However, I would not be able to stay after school, as much as I would love to, because I have a son who needs to be taken care of.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my letter. It would be greatly appreciated if I were to receive this position. I vow to be 100% committed to this position and work whenever it’s needed.
Respectfully yours,
Hailey S

50 Ways To Think Like A Child
The webpage that I chose was "50 Ways to Think Like a Child" because I think that when you're writing for children, you need to be in touch with your inner child. Some of my favorite points on this site are: "Buy a coloring book and a big box of crayons" and "Build a snowman". I don't like the point that states: "Play with your food" because it says dipping your cookies in milk will make you think like a child, but I still do that to this day.

Viewing Videos - "Exchange Bandit Pleads Guilty"
For this project, I chose a video from the CBC Website, called "Exchange Bandit" Pleads Guilty. In my opinion, this video was informative and the camera quality was good even when it was switching from person to person. I also really liked how it showed the street sign at the begin because the lighting around it made it stand out. I feel that the video was well planned and had good lighting.

Mr. Carter
Blackville Talon
Dear Mr. Carter,
I am writing this letter to tell you why I would like to work with The Blackville Talon.
This letter so you will be aware of the fact that I like working with and for children, which is why I would like to work in one of the following parts of The Blackville Talon – Kids Korner or the Tickle Trunk.
I feel as though I should be given one of the following positions because I am willing to take time to gather information for the website that would be of interest to those who attend this school. I feel that I should be given the position to work for Kids Korner because I enjoy working with children and am very good with them. I also feel that I should have the option to work for the Tickle Trunk because I love reading poems written by those around me and admiring their artwork.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope you consider giving me one of the positions. It would be greatly appreciated, especially seeing that I love to gather information. I promise I’ll be 100% committed to this position and work whenever it’s needed.

Ideas For School Newspaper
Of all the sections in the online newspaper, I would be most interested in working in the "Tickle Trunk" section. I would love to get a piece of artwork, or even an article of writing, from each grade, Kindergarten to Grade 12.
However, a good idea for the homepage would be the picture from http://phillipian.net/ , except with 2010 instead of 2009. Our school has only done this with people, but it would be neat to do this idea with blue and yellow cups as shown in the picture in the link above.
